FDNY Sounds Alarm on Staffing Cut Proposal

Dec. 4, 2023
Reducing the number of firefighters from five to four is dangerous for residents and crews, the union says.

FDNY firefighters say the proposal to cut staffing puts the public and them at risk.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association is expected to address cutting one firefighter from each of the 20 engine companies during a hearing with Mayor Erik Adams, according to PIX11.

Going from five to four is a reduction of 20%. That additional firefighter can drastically reduce the time it takes to put out life-threatening fires, officials say.

Last month, it appeared the FDNY and NYPD were not going to be affected by the budget.
